Alex Tew had this great idea to sell pixels on his website milliondollarhomepage.com to fund his journey through university. Alex correctly observed that others would replicate his idea and sadly there are some sites that have just ripped his code and graphics and picked a poor domain name as close to milliondollarhomepage.com as they could.

In Alex's site he comments that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and indeed this site does immitate his site. At least we had the courtesy to write our own but Alex, what a great idea, I'm impressed. Some peeps go through their education, continue to develop through their working life and sometimes come up with a good idea but you did this way up front, 21 years old. Well done and good luck!

million-pound-homepage.co.uk is not a dot com, its a dot co dot uk. Some peeps focus on dot com and Alex's site says it is aiming for the dollar advertising revenue. million-pound-homepage.co.uk is focused on the dot co dot uk marketplace and accordingly we are charging £1 per pixel. But thats not such good value for money I hear you say... indeed a dollar is a little under 60p so we have two sites and your pixels will feature on both million-pound-homepage.co.uk and million-pound-webpage.co.uk. The sites are subtly different and accordingly they will be indexed slightly differently by the search engines.

But fundamentally it is advertising. £100 buys you a (wee little) link to your site. This site will be getting a bunch of traffic and will have a bunch of links to other big sites. If you understand a bit about search engines you'll know that your sites ranking on the search engines is improved by the quality of links to your site. This site will be here until at least October 2010 but assuming no untoward external influences will be here for much longer.

There will be many more of these sites coming along but at the moment there appears to be no other dot co dot uk versions and as is the case with such ventures the front runner and the early followers succeed while the late comers struggle to be noticed. So don't delay...
